Kirby has the ability to suck up his enemies. He can then swallow them and obtain their ability, called a copy ability.

Copy abilities include bomb, Sword, and beam. Bomb can be obtained by swallowing a Poppy Bros. Jr, a Jungle Bomb, a Skud, a Pedo, a Rockn, a Balloon Bomber, a Foley, a Prank, or a Bomb Perot, Sword by swallowing a Sword Knight, a Blade Knight, a Heavy Knight or a Sodory, and Beam by swallowing a Waddle Doo, a Gemra, or a Laser Ball.
